The third and final stage of a major water main replacement project on Shepparton’s Hawdon Street will begin at the end of March.

Works will begin onsite yesterday, with peak construction works happening during the school holidays, before the project is completed around 12 May.

This stage involves lining a new HDPE 355mm water main inside the existing 800m water main.

This main will continue to supply high volume water users along Hawdon St, while residents are now connected to a newly constructed 180mm water main designed to improve supply reliability.

To ensure the works are completed as quickly as possible, two crews will be working to install the slip liner along Hawdon St between Knight St and Balaclava Rd.

GVW Managing Director Steve Capewell said once complete, the major replacement project would ensure the reliability of water supply along Hawdon St for decades.

“We recognise this project has been running over a longer than usual period of time, and we’re really grateful for the patience of residents and businesses along Hawdon St,” Dr Capewell said.

Motorists may expect slight delays while works are occurring, but traffic management will be in place to ensure traffic moves as smoothly as possible in both directions.

The project is upgrading an 800m section of water main between Knight St and Balaclava Rd to improve service reliability for residents, after the existing main experienced a high number of bursts and leaks.

The three stages of major construction have all been timed to run during school holidays to lessen the impact on motorists and nearby residents.

There will be no impact to water supplies during this stage, but residents are encouraged to call GVW on 1800 454 500 at any time if they experience issues with their water supply.
