Mansfield’s award winning drinking water is now available to residents and visitors on a 24-7 basis as the town reinforces its standing as the flagship location of Goulburn Valley Water’s Permanent Hydration Station project.
Mansfield is now home to four of the community space drinking fountains, which carry the blue diamond of the water corporation, all installed in the last six years.
There are stations at either end of the town’s main High Street thoroughfare, a third at the Botanical Gardens and the most recent addition is at the entrance to the Great Victorian Bike Trail.
There are now six drinking fountains in three Mansfield shire towns, the others in the heart of Bonnie Doon’s Bon Crescent and at the Sawmill Settlement Water Treatment Plant.
Goulburn Valley Water Managing Director Dr Steve Capewell said keeping the promise of delivering a station to every town with a drinking water supply was an important part of GVW’s 2018-23 Price Plan.
“We know how important having access to water in community spaces is, so we’re investing in adding extra locations to our roll out this year so more towns have the stations sooner,” Dr Capewell said.
“We’re also lucky to have some of the best tasting tap water in the world, with water from the Mansfield winning silver at international and gold and national competitions for the best tasting tap water.”
Mansfield Shire Council Mayor James Tehan said council was happy to have worked closely with GVW on the installation of these drinking stations.
“Easy access to drinking water in recreational spaces and other areas of the shire is an important part of community health and wellbeing.
“Council has listened to community feedback in identifying locations where drinking stations were needed, and our partnership with GVW has allowed this to be delivered efficiently and to minimise the cost to ratepayers,” Cr Tehan said.
