Treated wastewater from Goulburn Valley Water's (GVW) Mansfield Wastewater Management Facility (WMF) will be released into Fords Creek over coming weeks in consultation with the EPA.
GVW Wastewater and Recycling Coordinator Stuart Harris said higher than average inflows to the facility over the past 12 months, combined with minor infrastructure issues during the irrigation season had prompted the decision to release recycled water.
Low volume discharges are expected to continue over the next couple of months, until climate conditions are suitable for irrigation to begin on GVW’s farming properties.
The water being released has been fully treated and meets Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Class C standards.
