Goulburn Valley Water, in consultation with the Department of Health, has lifted the Boil Water Notice for Murchison and Murchison East.

Customers can be assured that the water supplied by Goulburn Valley Water is safe for all drinking, washing and food preparation purposes.

Goulburn Valley Water acted promptly on Friday 5 September to issue the Boil Water Notice following a change in the raw water quality sourced from the Goulburn River and identification of a treatment problem.

The treatment plant issue was rectified quickly to make sure that the water produced returned to specified limits.

Treated water testing was carried out as soon as the issue was identified and the test results showed that the water quality met critical safety parameters.

Goulburn Valley Water immediately set up temporary drinking water supplies for local critical users when the Boil Water Noticed was issued and alternate drinking water supplies were made available to the community.
Reticulation system flushing started on Saturday and continued until Tuesday morning.

Following verification of the results from further water testing, the decision was made to lift the Boil Water Notice on Tuesday 9 September, in consultation with the Department of Health.

Goulburn Valley Water Managing Director, Dr Steve Capewell, said that “Goulburn Valley Water’s priority throughout this event has been to ensure the safety of our customers. Staff have worked professionally and tirelessly to resolve the issue and support customers with alternative water supplies, where needed. We really appreciate the support and understanding of the community throughout the incident.”
