Treated wastewater from Goulburn Valley Water's (GVW) Mansfield Wastewater Management Facility (WMF) will be released into Ford Creek over coming weeks under wet weather approvals.
GVW Wastewater and Recycling Coordinator Stuart Harris said the decision was made to release the recycled water due to higher than usual rainfall in autumn, which had prevented irrigation during this critical period.
“Allowances are made for Water Corporation EPA Licence holders to discharge treated wastewater to the environment during emergency situations under EPA approval,” Mr Harris said.
The water being released has been fully treated and meets Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Class C standards.
