Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) is inviting people to step inside The Blue House during National Water Week next month and learn how everyday choices can help make the most of water at home.
Building on the success of last year's Water Week event, Let's Grow Waterwise Gardens, The Blue House takes the conversation beyond the backyard and into the home. Through an interactive, walk-through experience, visitors can explore the kitchen, laundry, bathroom and garden to discover simple water-saving ideas and practical tips they can put into action.
National Water Week is an opportunity for people to learn about the importance of water and the role we all play in conserving it. The Blue House has been designed to explore practical ways to save water and contribute to a more secure water future.
The average Victorian uses 169 litres of water each day. Depending on household size, that can add up to between 330 and 680 litres of water daily in a typical home.
GVW General Manager Customers and Growth Jonno Bellette said water security continues to be one of the most important challenges facing the region, and everyone has a role to play in helping secure our water future.
“The Blue House has been designed to bring water saving ideas to life. Visitors can explore every room, pick up practical tips and discover simple changes that can make a real difference. Every litre of water saved contributes to more water for the future of our region.” Mr Bellette said.
“The small, everyday decisions we make can have the biggest impact, and we want people to leave feeling inspired and confident about the steps they can take.”
The free, family-friendly Blue House will feature fun activities, educational displays, guest speakers and live demonstrations throughout the week. GVW staff will also be on hand to answer questions about water use, water efficiency, programs and services, as well as assist customers who may have questions about their water bills.
The Blue House will be open to the public during the day from Monday 19 October to Saturday 24 October at 18-20 Fraser Street, Shepparton (formerly Intersport in the Maude Street Mall).
