Fully treated wastewater from Goulburn Valley Water's Avenel Wastewater Management Facility will be released over the coming weeks.

The wastewater storage lagoons have reached capacity due to ingress of groundwater from the network. We have identified the problem and work is being undertaken to rectify it.

The release is expected to be opportunitistic to meet streamflow dilution ratios, with a maximum of up tp 0.8ML to be released per day into Wormangal Creek.

The water being released has been fully treated and meets Class C standards.

The release is being carried out under an allowance of Goulburn Valley Water’s EPA licence, which permits temporary release of fully treated water during winter when wetter conditions limit irrigation reuse.

GVW has informed the EPA of these releases and will monitor for any unexpected impacts on the  environment. Strict water quality monitoring processes remain in place to protect the health of local communities and environments.
