Progress Report

Status update #4 – 20 November 2020

Customers were advised that over recent weeks the final stages of this upgrade project were taking place, with testing of the system affecting pressure for some properties from time to time.

We apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused but are pleased to announce that now this testing phase is complete, and water services provided should return to normal.

The tank was removed from its stand earlier this month, see below video for footage of the crane carefully lifting the old tank down to ground level.

For those interested in the final step, the tank was then cut up into pieces, and removed off site to go for scrap metal recycling.

Thanks to customers in Toolamba for their patience while these works were taking place. The upgrade project involved removal of the tank, but also an upgrade to the booster pump and dosing systems and a new standby generator.

Customers are encouraged to provide feedback on this project or GVW's services on 1800 45 45 00.

Status update #3 - Thursday 22 October

TOOLAMBA WORKS UPDATE: Maintenance works at the water treatment plant to improve service are continuing. Water will remain on, you may continue to experience slight changes to pressure, flow or taste. We'll update you via SMS when works are complete, we're sorry for any inconvenience.

Status update #2 - Monday 28 September

WORKS UNDERWAY: Toolamba residents may experience changes in the water service provided by GV Water over coming days due to continued maintenance works at the water treatment plant. Water will remain on, but there may be slight changes to pressure, flow or taste during this time. Advice will be sent via text when the works are complete. Call 1800 454 500 to speak to a GVW staff member if required.

Elevated tanks sitting on tower structures in two of our towns are scheduled to be removed, and the towers left standing to facilitate SCADA communications back to SOC.

Status update #1 - Wednesday 5 August

Construction works to upgrade the Toolamba WTP are scheduled to begin this week

A condition assessment has shown that due to ageing the elevated tank requires removal so this work will begin Friday and should take around 6-8 weeks.

A range of other upgrade works will be undertaken on the water treatment plant site to accommodate the elevated tank removal - these include upgrade to the booster pump and dosing systems and a new standby generator.

Customers may experience a drop in pressure while works are taking place, with improved pressure in the town after the works are completed.

The tower structure has an aerial which transmits data back to GVW SCADA network. To allow this process to continue uninterrupted the aerials and towers will remain - only the tanks on the tops will be removed.

Project Overview

Toolamba’s reticulated water supply is sourced from the Goulburn River, and is treated at the Shepparton Water Treatment Plant. The treated water is piped from Shepparton via Mooroopna, and is sent to the Toolamba ground level storage tank at the site on the corner of Wren St and Daunt St. Water is then transferred into the elevated tank and the final stage of treatment takes place. Booster pumps currently transfer water to supply customers.

A range of other upgrade works will be undertaken on the water treatment plant site to accommodate the elevated tank removal - these include upgrade to the booster pump and dosing systems and a new standby generator.

The construction works have now begun, as of August 2020, and will take up to three months to complete.
