Almost half of the towns serviced by us are supplied directly from rivers and streams including the Goulburn, Broken and Murray Rivers. Other towns are supplied from channels, reservoirs or storages and one town is supplied by a groundwater bore.
All water sources are relatively secure with respect to volumes except during severe drought. To maintain security of supply, particularly during the winter months when the irrigation systems are shut-down, water is diverted to off-stream water storage reservoirs in a number of locations.
If you live in a rural area of Victoria you may have your own private drinking water supply. This could be a rainwater tank connected to your roof, or a tank connected to a nearby stream, bore or well. We do not supply tank water and are not responsible for the quality of your tank water. If you require more information regarding your untreated water supply visit the Department of Health and Human Services.
