BOIL WATER NOTICE issued for Longwood East customers

Sunday 11 January 2026, 7.15pm

Water supply has been partially restored to Longwood East. A Boil Water Notice is in effect for Longwood and Longwood East; please limit water use to essential needs until further notice. Supply maybe intermittent and not guaranteed

The fire that passed through Longwood and Longwood East has impacted water supply to customers. We will be carrying out verification sampling to assess the water safety, but at this stage we cannot guarantee that the water being supplied to Longwood and Longwood East customers is fit for human consumption.

In consultation with the Department of Health, we advise all residents to boil their drinking water until further notice. The Boil Water Notice will remain in place until we are confident that there is no longer a risk to public health.

This advice has been issued as a precautionary measure.

Customers should boil water prior to drinking, preparing beverages, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth and making ice.

To ensure water is safe for consumption:

  • Heat water until a continuous and rapid stream of air-bubbles is produced from the bottom of a pan or kettle (kettles with automatic shut-off switches are suitable).
  • Allow water to cool before use.
  • Store water in a clean, closed container for later use.
  • Caution should be taken to prevent scalding from boiling water.

Unboiled water can be used for:

  • Showering and bathing (avoid swallowing water).
  • Flushing toilets.
  • Washing dishes and clothes.

Consumption of unboiled water may lead to diarrhoea, cramps, headaches or other gastro-like symptoms. If you are concerned please contact your local doctor and advise them of this notice.

Drinking water is available - a tanker of treated water that is safe to drink can be accessed between 8am and 4pm daily and bottled water is available 24 hours a day at the Longwood Recreation Reserve. Bring containers to fill from the tanker.

We will continue to provide regular updates.
